Even though we are in 2021 and part of a highly modernized world here in the US, there are
other areas of the globe that are lagging decades behind in technology, education, and the ability to provide their citizens with the necessary tools to meet the most basic needs.
One of those locations is the continent of Africa, which is still very much a developing part of the world. It is not surprising that the way of life for many children is greatly impacted by the level of education they can attain. Africa is lagging far behind the rest of the world in this realm, and it is creating a culture of disparity that is incredibly concerning. This is why the staff at Emry is dedicated to combating children’s illiteracy in Africa every day.
Nearly 25% of Africa’s children do not attend school, and out of those who do, many do not learn enough to allow them to be successful adults. There is an extremely high dropout rate after primary school and there continues to be a very large achievement gap between the poor and wealthier classes. Helping children’s education through our initiatives, like Emry donating school supplies is something we are passionate about.
Emry donating school supplies is not the only way of combating children’s illiteracy in Africa. With the help of our stakeholders, we are working to develop programs that provide children in Africa with more inclusive literacy initiatives. These groundbreaking curriculums are instrumental to educating the future leaders of Africa as they prepare them to adjust to living in a more global world. It is a must that children everywhere are taught adaptability and how to respond to challenges in today’s society.
In addition, for these literacy programs to be successful, diverse alliances need to be fostered between groups such as government agencies, private sector groups, local businesses, literacy-based programs, and financial institutions. When these groups come together to work towards a common goal of creating literacy initiatives that are targeted for the success of all children and free of discriminatory practices, there is hope for improvement.
Emry also focuses on establishing lifelong learning programs as means of improving the literacy rate in Africa. While these programs are targeted at school-aged students, they also should be made available to the others who are no longer attending school. Our mindset is that no one is ever too old to become literate and every individual deserves to have some sort of education. Availing resources to adults can make a positive impact in African communities.
Through our different initiatives, we work tirelessly in getting children in Africa the education they need to succeed. We take great pride in donating school supplies to children and their families. As mentioned above, we will continue to encourage our partners in their efforts to tackle the illiteracy crisis in Africa through innovative curriculum reform, introduction of technology, building a school and library, improved staff training, eradication of discriminatory barriers, and fostering of public and private relationships.
We invite you to consider joining us in this noble and life-changing mission to break the poverty cycle in Africa through education. Every donation will help change a child’s life for the better.
